Salvador Dalí

Today, my program brought the whole group to a town called Girona about 2 hours north east of Barcelona, to the museum of

Salvador Dalí.

To those of you who are unfamiliar with this world famous artist, perhaps you may know that he was the one who painted this:

The Persistence of Memory

It was quite an interesting experience, I must say..

Upon arrival, you will see that the building looks like

This.

Dalí was an interesting artist. He believed in surrealist art. All his work derived from the interior world. His emotions and expressions. He put the weirdest things together and painted things of double and sometimes triple visions. He also had a thing for flies. He believed them to be beautiful creatures. Quite odd, don't you think?
Anyway, let me show you some stuff I like.

What do you see?

Now what dyou see?
Cool, right?

This painting was done with squid ink.
If you saw it in person, you would not have seen the face.
Taking pictures actually opens your eyes to it.

This was one of the ceilings. This is not the whole thing either.

Do you see a guy?

This is by far one of the coolest things I've seen since I got here. Swear to God.

Before we left the museum after the tour, me and my friend Gizelle decided to thank Dalí by taking a picture next to his tomb. Yes, his tomb is located in the middle of his museum.

Quite simple of a tomb for such an extravagant artist, don't you think?
That rectangle behind us is where his body rests in peace.

So, if you like paintings and are planning a visit to Barcelona, try to add this to one of your must-do list of things. The tours are pretty good. It covers quite a lot of things and sure does help you understand and appreciate art much better. Also, buy your tickets online. You can go here to book em. Also, if you like drawing yourself and would like to imitate his art, you can bring a sketchbook and your art tools with you. But definitely, this is definitely a must go!

AND while you're at it, I would DEFINITELY recommend a short detour to the town of Girona itself to the cathedral.

With quaint little streets with a very medieval feel.

A wonderful visit.
You should do it.

Seriously.
Dalí says so.
